EBSCO’s innovative search
Project Overview
EBSCO’s Knowledge Graph (or Concept Map) visually connects related topics, enhancing search accuracy and discovery. It helps users explore relationships between concepts, improving research efficiency.
Problem: During our research on the Discovery Platform, we found that search was a key pain point, especially for novice and intermediate researchers. EBSCO offered a Boolean Advanced Search option, but it was not easily understood or used by novice researchers. We conducted several rounds of research to highlight this issue. However, since the search functionality was not causing business losses, it was not a priority. Nonetheless, innovation was needed, and the Product team proposed knowledge graphs as a solution to enhance search and discovery.
Outcome:
- Identified usability challenges, such as confusing relationship labels and filtering issues.
- Refined UI design based on user feedback.
- Provided insights that shaped the next development phase before full launch.
